Around 38 million people globally have HIV/AIDS! December 1st is World AIDS Day, an annual health event that recognizes the global battle of the disease burden. World AIDS Day presents an opportunity for all people to unite in advocacy and help increase awareness of HIV/AIDS. This day is here to remind both the public and the state that the disease burden still exists and the need to create equality in all related aspects to combat the disease.
December 1st also marks the first day of Indigenous AIDS Awareness week, a national campaign that emphasizes the disproportionate impact this virus takes on indigenous populations, as Doris Peltier, an advocate for Indigenous women living with HIV, reminds us.
